Barn
The 24 by 36 foot barn with a second floor loft was a former portable classroom
purchased from the City of Peabody, where the current owner taught school for 34
years, and moved in the 1980s. Its exterior walls are covered in weathered cedar
shingles and has a fiberglass shingle roof which matches the house roof. The
interior vinyl clad sheetrock walls were insulated, but still need cosmetic work.
It has a wood floor on metal floor joists. The solid wood ceiling is constructed
of 3 by 5 timbers. The second floor loft is now accessed only by a door reached
from the outside by a ladder, but there is adequate room to install an interior
stairway for future expansion. A small section downstairs is walled off from the
front, but as the wall is not a carrying wall, it could be removed to open the
interior up to its full size with no obstructions.
